American Idol Update

I have really been into American Idol this season, more than I have been with any other season, with the exception of 4. I think the group is very talented, and there are several people I really like. That said, I was extremely disappointed with Michael Johns being eliminated last night. I was actually shocked that he was voted off, because I think there are several people that should have gone before him. I will say, he was great in the beginning and hasn't really done anything to "wow" me during the past several weeks, whereas some of the other contestants have been getting progressively better. This is where I think his disadvantage came, along with poor song choice. My opinion is that if you are doing inspirational songs, you generally wouldn't sing an Aerosmith song, and a screamy one no less. Even though he hasn't been great, he was still one of my favorite contestants, and for the first time last night, I actually felt really sad after the results show. My sadness continued directly after the results show as I watched the last minute of the Jazz game against the Mavericks. Deron Williams made an amazing 3-point shot with just a few seconds to go, to tie the game. And then Boozer, Okur and Kirelinko managed to stand and watch as Dirk Notwitski (yes I spelled that wrong on purpose) took a wide open 3 to win the game. That is a whole other can of worms, so I won't get into it. But seriously, in a nut shell, you would think if you were that caliber of a basketball player, and getting paid that much, you could play just a little defense. Arrggg... Goodbye Michael Johns :( And here are a few more thoughts on Idol as we get closer to the final.

My 3 Favorites
#1 David Archuleta Okay, this kid is just amazing. I will be pretty surprised if he doesn't win the whole show. I get chills almost every time I hear him sing.

#2 Brooke WhiteI also love Brooke. She has such a unique voice, and I love listening to it. I am hoping for a "Mormon" finale, if you will, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I will definitely be buying her CD post-Idol.

#3 Jason CastroJason is a really weird fellow, but I just love his voice. I have been downloading a lot of the American Idol performances from iTunes, and it is really interesting to me to see how the contestants sound on an actual recording, as opposed to watching them perform. Jason Castro sounds really amazing on the studio recordings that have been done. I would love to listen to a CD of his. It is when I started sampling the iTunes songs, that I started liking Jason Castro more than Michael Johns.
And one more note. I CAN NOT STAND DAVID COOK. He really, really, really bothers me. Unfortunately I think he is in it for the long haul. If I had to bet on it I would say it will be a David Finale (David Archuleta and David Cook). I think David C. is way overrated, and he is so weird, and also cocky. And then all his extra crap he puts into the performances, throwing his guitar picks, and writing things on his hands. Okay dude, you haven't arrived just yet, aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself? Chris Daughtry was way better than David, and yet he didn't even win the competition, so I think it will be interesting to see how long his attitude really holds out. I would definitely be happy to see him go anytime.
